Back in November '20 we posted the following
'The 'Edge' is the term given to the borders of the 'Cloud', in principle it is the final step or link between your device and the information you are seeking to access via the 'Cloud' and some might argue that the 'edge' is your actual device. However, it also appears that if you ask 50 people what the 'Edge' is you'll get 50 different definitions.
We're concerned that some commentators are throwing around huge numbers relating to the investment in the 'Edge' and we're very concerned about the potential energy use required to provide the 'Edge'
For us here at Carbon3IT we think that conventional thinking on the 'Edge' and potential deployment options are way off the mark, meaning that we think that the numbers are going to be quite a bit smaller and that the 'Edge' energy use will be mitigated via the use of 'on-site' renewables and other options.
To this end, we're preparing a 'concept' document that outlines various alternate, energy efficient and sustainable 'edge' options that could be deployed.
We're hoping to publish this document early in Q1 2021 and we'll let you all know via our usual means.'
